Birthdays: Virtually

A teacher on a Facebook Group I am apart of create a very cute Birthday Board.

I love all the decorations that are super colorful but not overwhelming! I thought this would be awesome to add to my Class App or Class Handbook for students to have access to, so they know when their friends birthdays will be and we can all celebrate…. virtually!!

I created a transparent rectangle over each month, that is linked to an additional page with pictures of the students/teacher who’s birthday it is that month. I used a picture from last school year to demonstrate! So on my Class Handbook App if you click on January, it will bring you to our January Page with Kaylee & my picture. We are both January Babies.

Typically every year I have students that have the same month all take a picture with our month signs and then hang them up next to their names so that we know when each of our friends birthdays are coming.

Usually each year, on a students birthday (or nearby if we are out of school) we celebrate by singing Happy Birthday (a student’s parent gave me a SUPER cute bear that sings… so we sing along and watch it dance and spin a sign that lights up: “Happy Birthday” my kids LOVE IT and so do I!!!) and I give each student a birthday balloon – a Giant Pixie Stick with a Free Print out Balloon from TPT. The students LOVE that they get a balloon and then even more excited when they get home and discover that its a Giant Pixie Stick!

Hi! My name is Katie Friedl and I have taught Kindergarten in Chicago for 13 years. It is not always easy, but its worth it! I will be writing about by tips and tribulations about teaching K in Chicago. Stay tuned to be inspired (hopefully... crossing my fingers) and probably even get a little giggle... at my expense I'm sure!
