New Year

Everything is coming up NEW this year…

New school year at a New school, teaching a New grade level, departmentalized STEM (which for me is New) and I am BEYOND excited!

I’ll be honest, this past year was difficult for me (as it was for everyone), but in January, I called my brothers and told them that I wanted to quit teaching. Teaching has been my dream & passion since I was in Kindergarten. I wont get into the details, but I’ve always worked for difficult administrators who were less than supportive, and I was beyond run down. But instead of “throwing in the towel”, I opted to find a better fit school. I was SO lucky to find new position at the perfect time!

Before the school year has even begun, I have already felt supported, pushed to expand my leadership skills and overall enthused that I feel magic again when I think about teaching.

I have been working in my classroom the last couple of days and CAN’T WAIT to show off my new classroom set up, new curriculum, and new attitude!

I know the saying is usually: “the calm before the storm” BUT I am the complete OPPOSITE when it comes to setting my classroom up. My classroom will end up VERY well organized, color coded, labeled and kid centered……. but getting there is ALWAYS like a tornado blew in. I tend to go from project to project to project and never really finishing anything because my brain just bounces to the next “to do” in my head.

I say that because…. well while school starts in 10ish days, my classroom still needs A LOT of help! As soon as my room is ready for pictures, I will make sure I show it off… but until then, here’s a teaser!

I am LOVING my bitmoji waving my students in. I also LOVE this new Morning Greeting I found on TPT, click here if your interested (it is not my product).

Please let me know if you have any MUST HAVE purchases from TPT – I love finding new & fun additions to my classroom!

Hi! My name is Katie Friedl and I have taught Kindergarten in Chicago for 13 years. It is not always easy, but its worth it! I will be writing about by tips and tribulations about teaching K in Chicago. Stay tuned to be inspired (hopefully... crossing my fingers) and probably even get a little giggle... at my expense I'm sure!
