These hats do MORE than just make home-connections. This simple activity creates classroom community, school community/cross grade level connections to previous students (reminiscing about their time in your class) and more! Imagine your class of kindergarteners (or preschoolers) ALL walking out the door wear their creations on their head (teacher included!); you definitely attract attention!!
These are great reasons to do these, but there are even more, the kids have an instant reminding tool about they did/learned about in school today, they practice their beginning sounds (a tough skill for students to master), their are building their small muscles while cutting (to make writing easier) and they have a fun way to express their creativity! This also gives them an extra opportunity to do multiple step directions while creating something FUN!
So I have created 52 different options – thats 2 options per letter! So you have choices! Which is awesome!! It also means you can re-visit letters/sounds later in small groups (or even again in whole group if needed) with a new/different craft!
I will be working on taking pictures of each craft/hat option and posting them – but here is what I have so far:
They are easy, multiple step crafts that encourage students to grow in their learning, muscle development and creativity!
