Student “Bitmojis”

I saw that some teachers were wondering if their students can do Bitmojis…. I thought about that, and I have Kindergarten, and I just can’t see my students being able to (or parents wanting them to) create their own Bitmojis BUT I thought of a SUPER CUTE way to still allow students to participate in the “Bitmoji” Craze!!

So… on the first day of Kindergarten I always take a picture of each of my students and add it to our “Classmates” wall – and add their name, so that if any of the students want to write their friends names they can find it and write it correctly. It’s always a great community builder!

Anyways… How do you do that via E-Learning?? WITH VIRTUAL PICTURES!

So here’s how I did it – I’m going to ask students to draw a picture of themselves – on WHITE paper with a blank background, just themselves! Dress themselves up in some fun clothes, add some fun details. Then ask parents to take a picture or scan the picture.

I drew a fun example… but in the picture you can clearly see the paper in the background, so it wont be able to be put in a scene and look like it belongs there (like a Bitmoji).

So, I added the image to: Remove.bg – this is the site that will REMOVE the background!

Now this didn’t take away any of the detail from the drawing…. BUT I can add it to a Virtual Classroom and share it with students!

I think this would make a really fun addition for students. You can also use them for a get to know you activity or a Star Student/Student of the Week/Day:

Or even create a class “photo” similar to my Staff Photo I created with my school’s staff at the end of the year last year.

I hope this helps inspire and make connections with you and your students while virtual learning! Good luck, and if you have any questions or tips, please leave a comment below!

Hi! My name is Katie Friedl and I have taught Kindergarten in Chicago for 13 years. It is not always easy, but its worth it! I will be writing about by tips and tribulations about teaching K in Chicago. Stay tuned to be inspired (hopefully... crossing my fingers) and probably even get a little giggle... at my expense I'm sure!
